Why the "OMG HELLGATE SUCKS" childish moans? Why not talk about the actual issue, how it could be done better, why it sucks, etc. and be constructive for once. Instead, Bluesnews message board typically looks like a kindergarten where someone missed out on nap time.
Only one person did that, but you looked past every single valid post because you're rushing to the defense of a game that isn't out and of a studio that hasn't had a single release.
Who looks like the overzealous one?
The rest of us have been through what sucks repeatedly and see no major reason to repeat it amongst each other. Instead we just feel pain every time we see a new press release digging the game farther down the hole. Just go look at the E3 trailers from last year. A game once described as an FPS shows some FPS sequences and some 3rd person sequences. The 3rd person sequences look like PS2 launch games, not in terms of graphics, but in terms of gameplay. If a giant crab jumped out I wouldn't have been surprised, it was that reminiscent of Genji (a glossy PS3 game accused of having early PS2 gameplay.) Then download the trailers from this year. The combat looks supsiciously like the combat in any standard MMORPG, such as WoW. But those games are not single player games, obviously, and the combat is "streamlined" to accomodate thousands of users. By "streamlined" I mean "dulled down and idiotized." No one likes WoW for the combat, it's the weakest part of the game. So Hellgate having combat that looks similar is frightening. A stand-alone game SHOULD have SIGNIFICANTLY better combat than a MMORPG.
This doesn't.
Nor does it have the massive community of a MMORPG.
But it has the shoddy gameplay and the monthly cost.
So basically Roper, once a God around these parts, is trying to get us to pay good money for a game that appears to be MMORPG downsides but neither the upsides of a single player game nor the upsides of a MMORPG. It's all bad. It's no good. Unless, of course, you're the developer or publisher, then monthly fees are grand, right, especially when so far the only things being offered by them are things nearly every other game offers in the price of the box? |
