Sacramento among top video game markets
"God of War" or "Guitar Hero," Sacramentans can't get enough gaming. The Sacramento market, which includes Stockton and Modesto, is among the nation's leaders in households that own a video game system, according to a new survey released by Scarborough Research.
Salt Lake City led all markets with video game systems in 32 percent of households, but Sacramento was No. 4 and tied with Indianapolis, Green Bay, Wisc. and Atlanta at 28 percent. Fort Meyers/Naples, Fla. was the lowest of the 76 markets surveyed at 15 percent.
Other major California markets surveyed included Fresno/Visalia (24 percent), Los Angeles (23), San Diego (23) and San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose (21).
The most popular video game system the past two months, according to MarketWatch.com, has been Nintendo's Wii console. Other hot video game systems are Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3.
According to Deirdre McFarland, Scarborough's vice president of marketing and communications, younger-skewing markets with more children, tend to rate higher in video game systems in households.
