11. Re: Vista Cripples Audio/Video! Jan 23, 2007, 19:04 DarkCntry

I didn't mean it was a correct necessary evil, it is something that as a copyright holder has to do in terms of keeping their protections in place.

I don't agree with DRM, but I understand the move to it. As was stated by someone else, MS wasn't really working to put DRM in in the first place, it was pressured in and in the end it had really no other choice.

If you use the mentality that there will always be a pirate to crack protections that there should be no protections, then I'm sorry, you're not ever going to find a company that is going to accept that one. Ever.

If there were other proactive ways for copy protection to be in place it'd be fine. I remember back in the day when the only copy protection was the inclusion of a book full of codes that were required during start-up of the program. It worked until scanners became a prevalent part of the home user's systems. Sadly, as it stands right now, there is nothing out there that cannot be broken in the terms of digital media, and unfortunately people seem to want more and more companies to use digital methods of media but I have yet to find these people attempt to come up with a plan that would protect these investments.

As I stated, I don't agree with the aggressiveness of DRM-laden things, it's just that there is no other valid alternative to it and you cannot fault MS for using it. If you do, well, then fine...I guess everyone has to have their own little fantasy worlds to live in.

And it's funny, using Vista as long as I have...I have yet to run into any issues that all of these doomsayers have been talking about. I guess I've either been super lucky, or there is some sort of overblown issue at hand.
