No, but the point is, it's not less safe with them, either No, the point is that the comparison is completely invalid. The demographics, population density, and laws regarding guns are completely and utterly different. IIRC, Freakanomics also tackles this one... along with largely debunking the "it's for the children!" argument that is used by the pro-gun control lobby -- a backyard swimming pool is vastly more dangerous to children than guns are, but you don't see people trying to ban swimming pools.
