Zeph likes to attempt to pick on me, but I still think he's way off in thinking people would pay $150 for a game that would have been $49.
Of course, we could look at what's going on now. Maybe he thinks it isn't right that expansion packs come out. Maybe he thinks they should have been one game. Maybe he doesn't think it's right that Star Wars was 6 movies, maybe he thinks he got robbed and should have only purchased one ticket.
There will always be short games. They won't get shorter simply because developers think you can pay. I will admit we may get a bit screwed. The most they'd do is give us 40% of a game but charge us 50%.
Prices can't fluctuate much. When they do, people buy less games. When they do, people can't impulse buy games. Charging more money is not always the best way to make more money.
On the flip side, maybe in 2009 a developer will finally cut the publisher out completely, and charge $30 for his game instead of $50. Twice as many people then buy the game. Developer cut the price, made more money. Consumer wins. Developer wins. This happens often in every market. Undercutting the next guy is usually a great way to go. Hell, look at the baseball games this year.
Capitalism is not always about being evil.
