R-Rated movies don't do well critically? Are you kidding me?

What do Shakespeare in Love, American Beauty, Gladiator, The English Patient, Braveheart, and Schindler's List have in common? They're all Best Picture winners and all are R-Rated.

Granted, a Doom movie's not going to go up for a major Academy Award, but plenty of R-rated movies fair quite well with critics and audiences alike.
