Carmageddon Multiplayer with Win 2k...

I'm trying to get some Carmageddon (http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=3716) multi-player going with a friend of mine, but it won't work. Last time I remember playing it on a LAN must have been on operating system Windows 95 or 98. Now I got Win 2k, and when I hit new network game in the menu, I get told "Sorry, network play is not available (Check cables, drivers, etc...). I guess my problem is Win 2k, but have anyone had it working with 2k? The game it self I can run, and it's great despite the now poor graphics. But I remember it most for its multi-player mayhem. Any help is appreciated.
