88. Re: 6800 vs X800 May 5, 2004, 20:06 vajbern

I've only looked at a couple of comparing reviews and it looks like the 6800 Ultra is outperforming the X800 in fps. However the difference is not hugely significant, and the X800 uses HALF the power (&slots) the 6800 uses, plus produces much less heat.

Does anyone know how the actual visual qualities of the cards compare? I've read that Radeon have always displayed significantly better quality images, but I'm wondering if this is still true, even for the later generation cards.
To me playable (30 fps) visual quality is more important than pure high fps: I'd rather look at a rose at 30 fps than a shit at 60fps.

Although I have owned two GF cards (2 MX and 3 Ti200) I found the visual quality of both to be very washed out. Neither displayed the last two Quake games even nearly as crisply as my old i740 card.

Anybody have any comments regarding how effectively Radeons and GFs handle AA and AF? Anybody at different times own both cards and are capable of comparing them?
