I am also a book fan but I also know that certain concessions have to be made to make a film watchable.

If most of the songs were on screen then we would be cringing as much as we did when Aragorn started singing.

Also 3hr20 was enough for anyones arse and the extended DVD can be turned on/off at will so I reckon the trilogy will make a damn fine box set.

Being a BBC (british born chinese) I would have been straight on the terrorist list no doubt.
