7. Spiders Oct 7, 2003, 10:49 Spiders
As you can tell from my name, I love spiders. I think one of the main reasons is because they are so different from us: We have a closed circulatory system, theirs is open. We are active breathers, they are passive breathers. We digest our food inside, they digest their food outside. We have an endoskeleton, they have an exoskeleton, and so on.

Anyway, I also have done what you did. I found a spider in my girlfriends hot tub, and upon discovering it was alive, fished out what turned out to be a relatively large wolf spider. But I do that with all insects. It's just because I don't believe, as some do, that it is OK to simply kill them or allow them to die. It upsets me when someone says "Look a spider!" (or mantis or ladybug or whatever) and just stomps it flat. I actually knew someone who was so afraid of bugs that he threatened to kill a monarch butterfly I was holding if I brought it near to him.

Insects are pretty friggin interesting if you actually watch them. There are PEOPLE that I would flush down the toilet before I ever flushed an insect.
