Well, most gamers I know like to have everything archived, have complete control over their downloads, and keep libraries of patches, and backup's of their collections. Steam is the total antithesis to this, and I think Valve is making a serious mistake using this. That's why I say, if you don't like Steam, check out Quake 3 and it's tons of mods, at least PunkBuster as an anti-cheat is effective and extremely powerful admin tool. I think if you check out some of the more realistic Quake 3 mods - like Urban Terror or True Combat, you may find them very enjoyable, especially when you tire of losing control over your game with Steam. Steam sure sounds a lot like Spyware.
