13. Re: Video Game Violence Sep 8, 2003, 07:03 Agrajag
Why must one acknowledge that the game could be a contributing factor? Who cares how realistic it is?? Are you saying all movies which portray realistic violence are similarly contributing factors? How about the evening news, perhaps the best source of realistic violence there is on TV; is that a contributing factor, as well? How about newspapers? How far do you go? Where does the blame stop?? You can't place the blame with the rest of the world for the actions of individuals... I don't care whether someone else came right out and seriously suggested to them exactly what to do; it's still the fault of the one that did it, and that's all... Who gives a shit where they get their ideas and inspirations from?? It's totally irrelevent... If they weren't picking them from from GTA, it'd be from "Pulp Fiction" or "Natural Born Killers", or from the evening news, or from some book they're reading for school, or just from their own twisted imaginations... The inspiration is not important; it's the fact that they acted on that inspiration... To attack the inspiration is to totally miss the point of the problem... It's saying that without that inspiration, they would've been just fine, normal, well-adjusted kids, who wouldn't have done anything bad... That's complete nonsense, since they've already proven themselves nothing of the sort, since one thing that defines perfectly fine, normal, well-adjusted kids is NOT acting on every stupid, malicious, antisocial idea that is suggested to you... The kids were fucked up, period... If one thing didn't set them off, something else would... Blaming the thing that set them off is just thoroughly fucking stupid...
