Computer
and Video Games has news that award-winning British fantasy author
Graham Joyce is working with id
Software to help create the story for DOOM 4, the next installment in
id's horror-themes science fiction shooter series. There are no new details on
the exact direction the game will take, as all Joyce says about the
collaboration is: "I can say that ID have hired me to help develop the storyline
potential."

I'm speaking mainly about the leaping/jumping nonsense of the monsters in the new one.
That is definitely true, and a major flaw in the game. The monster closets I had no problem with. The monster closets were an imp was standing in crouch mode and the nanosecond that door opened it would jump at you and hit you was bullshit.
One time I'm in a bit of an office area, and there is an imp standing behind a cubicle wall. I could see his head just over the wall. I'm basically on the other side of the wall and we're both facing towards where the little wall ends.
I figure "I'll move into his sight, quickly move back, he'll jump forward and be left standing right in the open where he'll get a double shotgun blast up his ass!"
So I move forward and backward. The imp lunges, and the fucking game CURVES THE IMP AROUND THE WALL SO IT CAN STILL HIT ME. It literally turns 180 degrees around the wall during its jump.
That made me loudly wish that John Carmack would get a spiked dildo up his ass.
I doubt I would buy Doom 4 if it was just Doom 3 with different levels, but I think they'll change things a bit. I guess we'll see.
