X3: Terran Conflict Rolling Demo

A rolling demo for X3: Terran Conflict is now available, offering a look at the latest installment in EGOSOFT's space combat series. This should not be confused with a playable demo, as a rolling demo is non-interactive, offering the chance to see what the game looks like using the actual game engine. As such this rolling demo can also benchmark your system to show how it can handle running the game. The 422 MB download is available on AtomicGamer,, FanGaming, FileFront, Gamer's Hell, and Strategy Informer. X3: Terran Conflict was released a couple of weeks ago, and can be purchased through Steam.

I didn't even notice there was a benchmark option. More embarrassing is how well it's done - that minimum of 13 sucks but overall, my performance is better than yours even accounting for the CPU speed difference. Vista FTW? When just "rolling", rather than benchmarking, I noticed most of the time I was getting a good frame rate and this confirms that, but there was bad slowdown on occasions.

The worst slowdown while benching was the first scene, just before and during some firing, firing some sort of purple laser - are they PPC bolts? The slowdown started before these came into view, although possibly as soon as it created the entities.
