Crytek: PC Sales to Piracy Ratio 1:15 or 1:20

There's a Cevat Yerli Q&A on IGN talking with the Crytek CEO about a variety of topics. One interesting bit, as pointed out by Gamasutra (thanks Mike Martinez), is his elaboration on his previous assertions about the impact of PC piracy on sales of Crysis, as his guestimates at piracy rations are pretty darned steep:

The other critique outside Crytek was the fact that the PC industry is really, at the moment, I would say the most intensely pirated market ever. It's crazy how the ratio between sales to piracy is probably 1 to 15 to 1 to 20 right now. For one sale there are 15 to 20 pirates and pirate versions, and that's a big shame for the PC industry. I hope with Warhead I hope we improve the situation, but at the same time it may have an impact on [our] PC exclusivity in the future.

It's folly to assume that everyone who downloads a game automatically enjoys it (or can even run it).
Again with the everyone. Who the fuck said everyone!? Tell me so that I can go beat them down with a 2x4. No one, not a single damn person, is claiming that everyone can buy the game or enjoys it.

I'll tell you what's folly, it's folly to assume that everyone who pirated a game is in some way unhappy with it or unable to pay for it. What we're talking about is subsets and percentages. There are a subset of people pirating the game who can easily afford to buy it, there is another subset of people who pirated the game who genuinely enjoy it. Somewhere those subsets overlap and you have a certain number of people who enjoyed the game and can afford to pay for it. And while it's not right for anyone to pirate the game, these are the most egregious offenders, these are the people that developers want to stop being cheap-ass losers and to buy the game they're playing.

No, it just means that people liked the screenshots on the back of the box or bought into all the hype.
Now this is just being daft. If the game blew it would be getting terrible reviews and sales would have quickly died. This is not what happened. There are plenty of people who are happily playing the game, just go back to the Crysis launch thread here and you'll find them.
