Galactic Command: Echo Squad SE Demo

A Galactic Command Echo Squad SE demo is now available, allowing the chance to check out the newest installment in 3000AD's space combat game. Word is: "This demo includes a single scenario divided into five stages for a total of 130 minutes of gameplay time. Each phase flows into the next phase. If you don't complete any of the first three phases within the alloted [sic] time, you will lose track. The end result is you'll get killed when you get to active duty." The 334 MB download can be found on AtomicGamer, FileFront, FileShack, and Gamer's Hell.

Fine I guess I gotta dust off my joystick.
If you're like me, I suspect you wouldn't be happy with your joystick anyhow. It turns out Derek is a flight-sim purist when it comes to joysticks, the x-axis on this game controls roll and not yaw. If you've ever played basically any other game in the (dogfighting) space sim genre, you would know that the standard is for the x-axis to control yaw, and the twist/z-axis to control roll. Basically GCES has it backwards as far as the genre is concerned, and there's no way to invert it.

I understand where Derek is coming from and he can do what he wants, but I'm glad this demo came out. I'm not going to try to learn that loopy control scheme just to play this game. Sorry Derek, I'm a huge fan of the genre (and have been dying for something new), but these kind of wacky controls are a gamebreaker.
