And so we put a wrap on the winter holiday season. We had a fine old time celebrating the new year at the BlueTower, MrsBlue made some Hoppin' John as a traditional new year's touch to go along with the chili. As for the chili, the peppers we found indeed turned out to be Scotch bonnets, rather than habaneros, which supplied all the fire we wanted, but left me a little disappointed. Scotch bonnets supply the flavor in jerk chicken, and they imparted some of that in the chili, rather than the fruitier flavor of its near-identical cousin. What I'm considering now is whether it's practical to try growing my own peppers, as many are said to be well-suited to container gardening. The trouble is I don't have a particularly green thumb, but there is a strong appeal in the idea of using home-grown peppers.
