Out of the Blue

When we headed into the city on Christmas day we were lucky enough to find a parking spot on the corner of the block we were visiting. As we headed into the apartment we noticed the spot directly in front of the building was also open (a holiday is about the only time you are going to luck into multiple inviting parking spots in Manhattan). This other spot almost tempted me into a re-park, except our other spot was almost as convenient. When we headed out to leave, there was a huge scene behind our car - tow trucks, police, police cars… someone managed to lose control and have a huge accident right behind our car. It was not easy to tell exactly what happened, but the aftermath left a car on the sidewalk just behind ours, having cleared out a traffic sign and a couple of newspaper vending machines. There was debris scattered all around, and the other car and one of the newspaper machines came to rest literally within inches of where we were parked, but our car had nary a scratch. Merry Christmas!
