The
Battlefield Website (thanks
Planet
Battlefield and Ant) has word that EA/DICE is aware of disconnect issues
with the newly released Battlefield 2142 demo, and is searching for solutions.
They also mention that the demo was such a svelte 1106 MB download due to the
exclusion of 33 MB worth of DirectX installers, so a DX installation is necessary for
anyone who doesn't have it yet. Here's word on the disconnects: We are
aware that some players are experiencing disconnects while playing the Demo.
Please know we are running checks and making enhancements to our support systems
so that these disconnects can be solved as quickly as possible.

Well, I tried the demo. For some reason I couldn't select 1280x1024 as my resolution; that didn't make me any more confident about what was in store. The optimising of the shaders was embarassingly slow, however the game loaded really quickly from then on - not that it mattered because the game looks terrible... a LOT worse than BF2. After being kicked off the first server I tried (before it even started loading) for excessive team killing (WTF?!?) I got about 2 or 3 minutes of game time before losing connection to the master server - this happened all the other times I tried to play as well. I've had similar issues with BF2 losing connection, so I don't have any hope that this will be resolved for the final version.
Overall I think my experience was terrible but then I was expecting that due to the quick release and the poor theme. People have got to stop buying shit like this to send a message to the developers. Roll on Crysis.
