EA Gets Unreal

Epic and EA Announce Unreal Engine 3 Adopted for Select Next-Gen Titles (thanks Frans) is the press release revealing just what its title says, and little more, stating: "Epic Games and Electronic Arts Inc. today announced that they have entered into a license agreement for EA to adopt the Unreal Engine 3 for use in several next-generation titles that are currently under development." Next-generation is, of course, a euphemism for consoles, but nothing more about what this involves is revealed, so the only remaining fun is to check out Mark Rein kissing EA's ass: "We're obviously thrilled to license Unreal Engine 3 to EA, the world leader in our industry. They have extremely talented development teams, and we're excited to see how they apply our technology to their high profile game projects."

46. Surprised... Aug 20, 2006, 11:43 Brick

I've enjoyed Unreal games but they do\did have drawbacks. The original Unreal required tweaking if you were running it under anything other than Glide. So if you didn't have a 3dfx card, you had to tweak. Deus Ex required tweaking.

That U3 engine demo has to be at least three years old! They still don't have it finished?

I'm surprised by the developer comments here. One of the big selling points of the original Unreal engine was it's ease of use compared to the Id engines.
