I don't know exactly how you'd get a faulty ground connection, as far as I know it's exactly that, a loop to ground, sounds a bit like the PC version of 'it might be bad RAM'. You could get one of those electrical socket testers, they go for a few £ here in the UK but I wouldn't go messing with your house electricals unless you've got a fairly good knowledge of how these things work.
Far more likely you've just been unlucky, especially as the CD drive problem was clearly not bad RAM (or a nebulous ground problem for that matter.) Plus given you're a Blues News regular would it be wrong to assume you've also got a PC around? That'd be just a sensitive to a major fault with the house electricals as a 360 I would have thought.
