Community site BF2142.Com reports receiving
word from DICE on plans for beta testing of Battlefield 2142 in August and a
demo that will likely arrive shortly before the full game: The demo for
BF2 went out about 10 days before launch if I remember correctly, I am sure
something similar will be the deal for 2142. We are also going to throw out an
open beta in the beginning of August. The beta is predominately to learn about
large scale issues, i.e. when we have 10 000’s of people playing at the same
time, eliminating some of the problems we have encountered after launch
previously in the franchise. Keep your eyes open to join.

with me, it just isnt the name bug, or the load times or the horrible server browser.. it's also teh mechanics of the game. even with a truly top of the line system and a sub 80 ping my hitscan seems erratic (when prone firing short bursts), the vehicles damage model seems random, the game feels about 1/2 second behind every action i perform. i dont feel very connected to the game, sometimes it feels light and unresponsive.
i loaded up Wolf:ET and BF2 in the same day.. BF2 felt "loose" and "erratic".. while ET was 100% accurate.
