- Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter
The
Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter Q&A on FiringSquad discusses the PC
edition of the special ops shooter sequel with Ubisoft producer Mathieu
Girard: "From the beginning we wanted to create a specific PC version for
GRAW and from that statement a third party developer seemed to be the best
solution. GRIN appeared to be an excellent choice for two reasons. First,
their powerful 3D engine. They’ve been working on it for several years,
gradually improving it and increasing its list of features. It is a very
versatile engine, one that easily adapts to new technology, and one to which
new features are easily added. The engine’s performance in rendering both
long sight ranges and close up details also makes it ideal for tactical
shooters. Close and long range battle has never been so detailed as they are
in GRAW PC."
- Tabula Rasa
The
Tabula Rasa preview
on 1Up is an audience with Lord British as it is a conversation with Richard Garriott of
NCsoft to discuss their upcoming MMORPG: "Last year we debuted the bold new
look and feel for Tabula Rasa. Since then we have fleshed out the one
complete world and some of our second. (We plan to launch with three worlds
and build new worlds with expansions.) We have refined and balanced the
combat systems and character growth. We have detailed hundreds of compelling
quests and storylines. Most importantly, I believe we have delivered on our
promise of integrating RPG mechanics and shooter pace and feel into an MMP.
And, we have dynamic changing battlefield environments that are
sophisticated and compelling to play."
- A Tale in the Desert III
The
A Tale in the
Desert 3 Preview - Part 1 on the MMOz Forum includes an article-format
Q&A with Andrew Tepper about the upcoming MMORPG sequel: "I fully expected
this unique form of in-game democracy that we use, to breed an ever-growing,
increasingly intrusive government, just as real-world democracy often does.
In fact, one big advantage I saw to Tellings was the chance to undo the
implosion that I thought was inevitable. The culture that evolved in ATITD
was just the opposite, and I still don't have a good explanation. The force
of law has always been applied with the lightest touch."
- The Island: The Earthling
The
Island: The Earthling Q&A on Strategy Informer talks with Iliya Chudakov
about their upcoming novel adaptation: "I suspect that you meant what
replay-ability the game is going to have. It might be compared with the
“replay-ability” of a good book. Once you’ve read it up to the end it’s
doubtfully that you’ll start reading it from the very beginning that very
minute. It is very likely that you put it on the shelf to reread once later.
The same is applicable to the game of such kind as 'The Island: The
Earthling'."

Take it for what you will, if you are a fan of tactical shooters and have the system to run the game, it's been excellent so far. It takes a little while to get used to the feel of it, with a different FOV and with the body awareness (which extends beyond just seeing your feet, I might add). It has a very distinctive feel to it that mimics the actual motion of a body. Whoever said it was a budget title is just a fucking moron, plain and simple.
As for the mod tool deal... this is getting weird. GRIN has stated many times very specifically that they ARE going to be releasing mod tools and that they're currently working on tweaking them to make them more user friendly. This comment from UBI came from out of the blue and a lot of the fans of the game are somewhat confused by it.
One of the GRIN employees basically said that at this point it's Girard's word against theirs and that it may be related to his definition of 'modding tools'. So far as I can tell they aren't planning a full SDK, but definitely mapping tools and scripting tools as well. There was a comment earlier this year (february or early march, can't recall offhand) where they talked about the ability to create new game modes with the modding tools as well as new weapons and maps.
GRIN at the moment is on vacation, having just recently finished the game so we likely won't get an official response from them until they return in a week or two.
Edit: And why the hell are you taking someone elses word for what the game is like when there's a free demo to try for yourself? Compared to the demos we've seen out lately, it's relatively small (550 MB or so).
