Anyone here play the PC version of Fable yet? How is it?
Fable is a really wacky game, because looking at Malakai's comments, I can easily see how that was his experience of the game; it's definitely one of those games that is either going to appeal to you in lots of ways, or almost not at all.
You really can blow through the story in 7 hours if you want to, because, for one thing the game is essentially very easy, and for another, the storyline is really just a 'highlights reel' of sorts from the Hero's life.
It's a fable, remember? A story. So if all you want to see are the highlights, then just pick up the gold quests from the Guild and you'll be tearing through the story like Columbo is your Grandpa and you're sick in bed
The rest of the game is all the stuff that happened to the Hero between the highlights.. There are a TON of possibilities here to fiddle with but like any RPG, if you don't find the sideline action appealing, then you're not likely to want to spend the time fiddling with it all.
Some of it, you just might never encounter depending on what you decide is fun. There are optional quests that get assigned to you the same way as the story quest do, but there are also quests that you won't know about unless you happen across the right spot.. there are things you can only do at certain times of the day.. you can dabble in realestate.. prostitution.. run an NGO.. there's a treasure hunt to figure out.. a bunch of Legendary Weapons to find.. TLC added special armour sets to hunt down.. there's a fightclub I can't talk about.. minigames.. branches in the game that allow/disallow certain things.. things your alignment affects.. things that depend on who you're married to, etc. etc.
I like it plenty, and even though I played through most of the XBox version, I'm having WAY more fun with TLC on the PC. All the new content I've come across so far has really fleshed-out the world nicely, and there's one new quest in particular that had me in stitches through most of it (no chicken hat involved, either) -- VERY strange stuff, but completely awesome as well
Been playing for over 20 hours so far, and still have 2-3 more story quests to do plus the entire Lost Chapter, so it'll be a while before I'm done yet (that said, the beauty of the game is that I know if I ever get bored with the sidelines, I can just rip through to the end in a single sitting).
Most of all though, the game is just resolutely SILLY, and that's the thing I like best about it. We need more silly games.
Still not convinced? Maybe you need to know about the awesome power of the chicken hat:
