Band of Brothers is superior to many war films inasmuch as with 10 hours or so of time to tell it's story it can talk about all the goings on and characters, both large and small that make up the big picture. It didn't have to amalgamate people for the sake of simplicity, or condense events for brevity. It's not 100 % action, but when the action comes it's very visceral and powerful. The whole series is an excellent tribute to the men of WW II that puts you in their shoes without glamorising or dumbing down the events.

Winters dying recently is very sad. Listening to his interviews and those of the other vets was fascinating. When you hear about heroes (as evidenced by factual accounts of what they did themselves) praising a leader and saying they'd serve under him again any time, you know he was a little bit special.
