There's a System
Shock 2 Retrospective on GameSpot (thanks Ant) that looks back at the
highly regarded action/RPG sequel. According to the article's conclusion, this
interest is more than academic, as they tease plans for an announcement related
to all this tomorrow: But why even look back at System Shock 2 at this
point? Because Irrational has been, and it plans to make a related announcement
this Friday (tomorrow). The studio has decided that it wishes to further what it
started in System Shock 2--to work on games that promote "emergent"
gameplay--open-ended exploration that offers many choices and combinations of
options to players. You'll see what we mean tomorrow. Be sure to come back
then.

Of course, Terra Nova 2 would also kickass. I really liked that game too.
I wrote to Looking Glass one time, asking them a technical question about the original Flight Unlimited (another great game). I mentioned Terra Nova as one of the other titles I had and asked whether a sequel might be coming out. The LG dude wrote back and said, "Don't expect any sequel to Terra Nova, it was a HUGE BOMB." So I guess they lost some money there.
edit: to clarify...the above took place in 1996, friends!
