Racing Q&As

Gentlemen, start your engines.

  • Need for Speed: Underground 2
The Need for Speed: Underground 2 Q&A on NFSUnlimited.net gets answers to 15 questions about the next installment in the racing series: "This year the AI is more consistent and more competitive. They’re smarter about when to use NOS and they are more aggressive in general. Certain game modes, like Street X, have very unique AI – they really like to bump your car and fight hard to beat you to the inside of each corner. And this year you won’t be drift racing alone – there will be 3 other AI cars on the track with you, so you have to try to slide but simultaneously avoid hitting them in the corners. Overall, the AI is much more fun and competitive."
  • rFactor
There's an in-house Q&A on the rFactor Website (thanks Frans) that discusses details about the engine in the upcoming racing simulation with Joe Campano: "The time-of-day feature means that you can setup your race session to start at any time of day or night, and time marches forward from that point, in real-time or at an accelerated rate if you want to speed through the day-night and night-day transitions. As time progresses, you'll see accurate changes in lighting, shadows, and skies. Circuit builders will even be able to include latitude/longitude and date information into the track description for complete real-world accuracy."
  • Live for Speed S2
There's a Live for Speed 2 Q&A on Blackhole Motorsports talking with the development team about the next version of this car racing game: " In S1 the tyres lost too much grip with any amount of lean angle, but this is fixed in S2, so it's possible to use more camber if that helps with the setup for that track / car combination."

1. Rubber-banding Sep 18, 2004, 07:21 Evil Timmy

Hopefully they'll do away with, or at least give you more control over, the rubber-banding in NFSU2. Even if you drive exceptionally well, you're never more than a few seconds ahead of your opponents, and the game likes to throw more stuff in your way when you're in first place, so 59 seconds of perfection can be thrown down the drain by one second of driving a little off. Also, the multiple-cars-in-drift-mode thing just sounds stupid. It's already hard enough to get a 100K+ Drift King drift, but running into other morons while attempting to do so...bleh. Sounds like they're taking an even more arcadey-action direction with a game that used to be about pure, fun, speedy driving.

I think I'm going to go reinstall NFS:SE...
