Acclaim Files for
drops the other shoe on the beleaguered developer/publisher:
30, 2004 - Acclaim Entertainment, the Glen Cove, New York game company that got
its start with titles such as WWF Wrestlemania and NBA Jam, officially filed for
bankruptcy, has let all its employees go, and shut its doors for good, IGN
The 600-employee company (NASDAQ: aklm) that owned studios in Manchester, UK,
Austin, Texas, and was headquartered in Glen Cove, NY, was unable to renew a
loan with GMAC Commercial Finance, and could not secure an additional $65
million loan from another financier. Friday, the company sent employees home,
but there was no official or public conclusion of its closure.
they have a status report on the company's orphaned projects:
as Juiced, The Red Star, and Worms 3D, which were slated for early September
release, will NOT be published by Acclaim, IGN learned today. "Those games might
be published by some other publisher, but not by Acclaim," the former employee
said. "The code for those two games is done. So, I wouldn't be surprised if some
of the executives weren't in negotiations to sell off those games to other
publishers. But..." she added, "I don't know for sure."

|Well, I have ToEE installed, but...the whole setup is just gettin gon my nerves. I am still just going around the first town and I am tired of my sheep getting caught in walls, having to manually label every single building, the buildings generally being bare (I always play lawful good, but "withe benefits" of five-finger discounts :D.)
NWN is about all I have left and even the less-fanboyish fans say the expansion pack helps out a bit.
id = id Software
ID = Icewind Dale.
The "Ultimate Collection" is the thingie with ID, the expansion, and ID 2.
If ToEE is going to be just combat, I think I would rather play ID for a "combat" RPG. 0
The local EB was already closed so I just ended up picking these up at the (B&N) Gamestop. Of course, this all means I still have the $20 EB gift card; I think I may just use it for the Hordes of the Underdark expansion pack. That or use it for Myst IV.
With Brothers in Arms going to '05, there is not much else to look forward to this year. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is d.e.l.a.y.e.d. so that really only leaves PoP 2, KotOR 2, and Bloodlines, presuming those do not get delayed.
HL2 continues to taunt me from the Steam menu...
Already having (and recently played through) the Doom Ultimate Collection :D,
A locked copy of Half-Life 2 is now on your computer.
I love you, mom.
