Out of the Blue

We were out in the yard yesterday evening when Hudson the wonder dog started barking furiously at the back fence. I looked over best I could to see the cause of the commotion, but all I could see from my angle was a little white puff of hair bouncing around a few inches off the ground on the other side of the fence... quickly realizing the situation, I called her off, and miraculously managed to get her to heed (about the first time in four years I've been able to distract her from prey), and got the area clear of the three of us right around the time the agitated skunk on the other side of the fence fired a salvo. Whew. "And so, having disposed of the monster, exit our hero, stage left... none the worse for his harrowing experiences."
