Stolen Unveiled

Hip Interactive Corp. to Publish New Stolen'TM' Title Worldwide (thanks Frans) has scant details on Stolen, an upcoming third-person stealth game in the works at "World-class developer Blue 52" (Peter Pan: Legend of Neverland). The game is slated for release in March 2005 for unspecified platforms. Here's the deal:

Stolen(TM) is a realistic, third-person, stealth-based, action game starring a high-tech female thief, who is slated to become a long-term gaming icon. The fast-growing stealth segment generated some of 2003's biggest hits and clearly has a genuine worldwide appeal. Competing in this latest genre as innovative high-tech stealth/robbery game, Stolen(TM) will generate great interest from gamers worldwide thanks to its stunning looks and captivating gameplay.

"Our team was impressed by the quality of Stolen(TM) and the possibilities for future successes," commented Arindra Singh, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hip Interactive. "Over its lifetime, as an "A" title, we are anticipating the game to be one of our top sellers in Fiscal 2005, along the lines of Pariah, Playboy: The Mansion and Fear Factor: Unleashed. Not only does Stolen(TM) add to the growing number of quality games offered under our Hip Games(TM) division, but also confirms its ambitions to be a worldwide publisher of games on all formats."

They're coming at this from a strange direction. Somehow I don't suspect the introduction of a "long-term gaming icon" was on the minds of the handful of Japs who first cranked out some random platform hopping coin gobbler starring, for no particular reason, a couple of Italian plumbers.

The boy band method of superstar manufacturing will inevitably merge with gaming, sure, but that's still a while away.

You can't deny these guys credit for their sheer enthusiasm, at least. There are apparently very high hopes for games like Playboy: The Mansion and Fear Factor: Unleashed! They should title this one "Stolen(TM): Episode IV".

Edit: For some reason, I was expecting that loopz link to be something like http://www.timecube.com
