One of the warnings the tykes we are babysitting came with is that the younger
one does not react well to refined sugar, but that if we wanted to, we could
probably get away with a trip for ice cream. Since a disagreement between the
boys cancelled the Bronx Zoo plan (which I think disappointed me most of all),
we decided to take them to the local ice creamery. After the sugar warnings, you
can imagine my horror when MrsBlue emerged with the boys (I was waiting outside
with Hudson the wonder dog) each holding an ice cream cone covered with about a
pound of M&Ms. Sure enough, the older one, who can be more of a handful
generally, was okay, but the four-year-old fully and completely turned into the
great Cornholio. No amount of T.P. for his bunghole was able to calm him, though
dinner helped a bit, he was basically a monster for the rest of the day. Things
are back to normal today, but the boys are not forgetting that they were each
promised a piece of candy as a treat today, so we may be in for a repeat if that
plan cannot be derailed. On the bright side, they are going home today, so if
this results in a meltdown, at least part of it will be on their mom's watch.
