'Doom' creator Id soon to start on new game on Reuters (thanks
Gaming Horizon
and Tiscali Games) has scant details on id's next project after DOOM 3, which will
unsurprisingly begin development soon after DOOM 3's completion. The more
newsworthy bit is the revelation that the game will not be another sequel or
remake: LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Video game developer id Software, famed
creators of games like "Doom" and "Quake", will likely start work on its new
project almost immediately after completing four years of work on "Doom 3", its
chief executive says.
In an interview with Reuters on the sidelines of the video game industry trade
show E3 here, Todd Hollenshead said that the game in question was new
intellectual property, and was not a "Doom", "Quake" or "Wolfenstein" game.
He offered few details on the style or content of the game, other than to say
the id team would start serious work on it in short order, possibly a matter of
days, after moving on from the PC and later Xbox releases of the new
"Doom2".

I don't feel as if Romero screwed Quake up, and I don't see how you can say that, but you're entitled to your opinion. If by screwed up, you mean by id's public image with his superstardom and arrogance, then perhaps you're right. I think his levels were of great contribution to Quake. He made the first episode of Quake, including the boss stage, and the last boss in the end map. He added some level of interaction to the game, like how you had to use the environment to kill the bosses rather than just blowing the crap out of them with a rocket launcher. I know this is nothing big now, but there were few fps games then that did this. Willits and and the rest were also good map authors, and at the time Sandy Peterson's levels towards the last episode absolutely creeped the hell out of me with those long dark, cobalt blue corridors. Anyway, I'm rambling.
-Cheers mate.
