My favorite thing about the new version of Outlook (/me braces for a flood of alternative mailer recommendations) is (or I should say, was) how it refused, by default, to download images in mail messages from over the 'net without being asked to. This managed to save me countless pointless image downloads, and also helps protect privacy, since spammers use access logs to see who downloaded such images to tell whether their spam has reached an actual user so they can resell your address. The bummer is that after telling it to download the images in one single mail, this no longer works properly on other mails, even though it is still set to skip images unless told otherwise. Oh well, it was neat while it lasted...
