Out of the Blue

"That's just the beat of time-the beat that must go on. If you been trying for years-then we already heard your song." Death or Glory (Strummer/Jones). More than any prior celebrity passing I can recall, I am shaken by the death of Joe Strummer. The Clash came about as close as anyone could to living up to the hype of being "the only band that matters" in their day, and by pulling the plug on the band in 1985 so shortly after jumping the shark in 1982, managed to live up to their own wisdom on the subject of rock longevity. I'm not sure The Clash weren't one of those 'had to be there' kind of things, so I don't imagine this means too much to anyone born after their moment in the sun, but for those of us who were there, I'd say the passing of Joey Ramone and Joe Strummer within so short a time of each other marks the end of an era.

Today, of course, is Christmas Eve for those who celebrate (and I guess even for those who don't), so allow me to pass along all due well-wishing on the occasion, I hope you have a happy safe holiday, and that Santa brings you everything you are hoping for.
