Out of the Blue

Seems like a good time for a rummage through the news archive to see what turns up: As was noted at the time in our ever-informative date bar, it was six years ago Sunday that Qtest was released. It was five years ago today that John Cash (then of id Software) tossed down the Girl Scout Cookies gauntlet, spurring our epic debate over the merits of his favorites (Somoas) and mine (Thin Mints) that has now spanned half a decade. It was four years ago today a GameSpot article quoted John Romero saying that Human Head Studios had begun preliminary work with ION Storm on Daikatana II (though apparently this plan had already changed by year's end), and that Daikatana was due September of that year (1998). Speaking of things that didn't quite come to pass, it was three years ago today that Metabyte revealed their plans to revolutionize the graphics marketplace by creating drivers that would allow the use of a pair of video cards "in a parallel configuration using any existing chip on the market," something that doesn't seem to have happened. It was two years ago today that Zoid departed id Software to join on at Retro Studios, which was the day after it was announced that Myscha the sled dog had departed The Collective to join on at Cyan. Finally it was one year ago today that first hints surfaced about the cancellation of TWINE, the planned PC/PS2 Quake-engine James Bond game, rumors that were later confirmed (though some of PS2 TWINE ended up in Agent Under Fire).

...at least it'd take care of all those idiot snowboarders who bail and sit right in the middle of the slope (in a spot where the people above can't see them). I'm all for anything that helps with snowboarder population control!

Ah, another jealous skier who realises the inferiority of his sport! At least when we bail, there isn't the subsequent obstacle course of skis and poles strewn across the slope! And BTW, not all snowboarders are as inconsiderate as to sit in the middle of the slope. I sit off to the side every time. So please don't hate me just because snowboarders are way cooler than skiers.
