MS Planning DirectX 12

Microsoft has launched a new DirectX blog and DirectX 12 Twitter account indicating another version is in the works, with the motto on the Twitter account stating "#DirectX12 is coming... follow us for the latest news." This contradicts other indications they might be phasing out the API collection. This goes along with a GDC 2014 Session titled "DirectX: Evolving Microsoft's Graphics Platform (Presented by Microsoft)." Here's word on DirectX 12 from the session summary:

For nearly 20 years, DirectX has been the platform used by game developers to create the fastest, most visually impressive games on the planet.

However, you asked us to do more. You asked us to bring you even closer to the metal and to do so on an unparalleled assortment of hardware. You also asked us for better tools so that you can squeeze every last drop of performance out of your PC, tablet, phone and console.

Come learn our plans to deliver.

I'm not surprised you don't get it considering you inaccurately lump everyone with a complaint about a Microsoft product into the same crowd. Microsoft has done some pretty incompetent shit over the past 10 years, much of it in the consumer space. I use Microsoft products from time to time and I don't have any personal feelings about a fucking corporation but the company is not some poorly understood entity, they have earned it every step of the way.

I wonder, is it the same folks coming down on windows phone as being insignificant and about to die, the same group that defends Linux as a strong alternative?

This is such a stupid thing to say, yep anyone who accurately points out that Windows Phone isn't a statistical majority must be a neckbeard well done fella. Stating Windows Phone is insignificant is a fact, it is a tiny subset of a very large market. You may like Windows Phone and feel that you need to reinforce your purchase decision but for the time being that's just the truth. Whether it will die or not is anyones guess. I've used a Windows Phone but I don't own one personally so it doesn't affect me either way. The idea that everyone is somehow invested in Microsoft smartphone failure is some forum warrior bullshit.
