POE Boasts 2M Players; Patch Details; Supporter Packs Update

Grinding Gear Games announces that Path of Exile now has more than two million registered accounts since the action/RPG entered open beta testing in January. "We're really pleased with Path of Exile's reception. It blew our expectations out of the water and continues to grow every day," responds Chris Wilson, producer for Grinding Gear Games. "The continued feedback and support from our fans has been great. We expect to add a lot of new content and features during the Open Beta period as we approach full release later this year." They also continue to update the open beta on a weekly basis and just this morning posted a lengthy update outlining plans for the version 0.10.4 content update they plan on releasing next week as well as patch notes for a new version 0.10.3B hotfix that launched yesterday. Next week's patch will introduce a new player skill and four new unique items, offering a teaser image to whet appetites. Finally, they have an update about shipments of physical goods from closed beta supporter packs along with the question of whether players would welcome a new set of such rewards for open beta supporters:

Many people haven't yet received the physical goods from the supporter packs that they ordered towards the end of Closed Beta (or in the case of some of the more crazy signing requests, earlier in the Closed Beta). Our bulk signing of physical goods was delayed by the launch of the Open Beta, but we now have signing stations set up at the office again and a lot of shirts/posters/DVDs/CDs are getting signed each day. We have also replenished our stocks of the manufactured physical goods required for these packs and are packaging/shipping as many as we can per day. Thanks very much for your patience!

Quick question: How much interest is there in the return of physical goods supporter packs for Open Beta that have different contents than the Closed Beta ones? We've been holding off on pursuing this idea until we have fulfilled the orders that people have been patiently waiting for from Closed Beta. I get more and more mail about this per day from excited fans who want to purchase packs that include physical merchandise (and exclusive pets).

I haven't really played much since the last patch, how were the melee changes? I really enjoy the game but I feel like build diversity in hardcore is limited by the survivability nodes that are essentially required in almost every build. I don't mind this so much but to dedicate so many of them to it feels off somehow. I'm not a big fan of Chaos Damage/Resist either, it felt like pandering to the streaming crowd who were complaining that difficulty wasn't there. They added this weird arbitrary resist with only a few nodes in the tree as a quick fix and its awkwardly inserted into the game.

Taking a bit of a break while some patches accrue, I was getting a bit burnt out on my melee dudes since it felt like only a few skills were ever viable for the builds I was doing.

Melee classes still feel a bit gimped, although the duelist got a major overhaul last patch and is right now kicking major ass. My main is a ranger and I have built her as a pure damage dealer with maybe one point in a % life skill. Im doing quite well with her ATM. (lvl 51) The chaos damage/resist is still off, monsters do a shitload of that and the items with chaos resist are few and very far between.

The biggest improvements seem to be in the feel of the game and the graphics themselves. The game is getting more and more polish with every single patch and its noticable.

Its still a long way off from being anywhere near balanced (at least with regards to melee) but even at this point I would recommend this game over Diablo3.

P.S. The servers are having a hard time in the last couple of days as it seems the popularity of this game is soaring and some noticable lag has appeared as a result. This is my biggest gripe with the game ATM at peak times solo play is impossible...

Did you use a specific build guide or did you do it as you felt?
I haven't played too much and am in the third act with my Ranger, level 31, and it's pretty difficult. :/
I am not sure whether my build is wrong or whether it's the nature of the third act because a lot of people in chat always complain about how difficult the third act is.
I'm just unsure of whether I skilled her wrong and will run into problems later.
