MechWarrior Tactics Closed Beta; Founder's Program

Closed beta testing of MechWarrior Tactics has officially commenced, and North American gamers are being offered the opportunity to participate in vetting the online strategy title by purchasing one of three different Founder's packages."MechWarrior Tactics is a game deeply rooted and inspired by the original and cherished BattleTech tabletop games. Its important for us to bring to life the essence of the BattleTech experience for fans and were looking forward to their valuable feedback," says Chris Cleroux, Game Director, Roadhouse Interactive. "This is truly a project where the Closed Beta will be one, long conversation with the fanbase ensuring that we are creating an experience which captures the magic, excitement and flavor of the BattleTech universe."

This was such a dumb idea to do the online F2P model for this and MWO. This game in particular screams SP/MP. I want this game but not as an online F2P game godamit!

Well if you want to pony up the capital needed for a single player Mech Warrior feel free. At least in the case of MWO they tried and no publisher wanted to do it, and since Microsoft still owns the license for electronic game versions, I'm really not all that surprised no publisher wanted to bite. Microsoft is the reason MPBT:3025 never saw the light of day, and EA generally doesn't need much prodding to cancel a title that they own outright, nevermind one they're sublicensing from another publisher.

I'm like you, I would have much preferred an actual MW5, but MWO isn't as terrible as some like to make it out to be, with a good group of regulars to drop with it's actually pretty fun.
