You just described their popularity. A lot of people spend a lot of time traveling on train or plane, watching TV on the sofa, spending time in cafes, and letting their kids play games.

My mom adores her iPad. She will use it somewhat interchangeably with her laptop. 90% of the time she'll sit on the couch reading the internet on her iPad, since it's better for that for her - lighter, quicker, etc. When she needs to do something a bit more intensive (e.g., type an email, buy something) she'll bust out the laptop.
For me, personally, the lack of proper tabs makes browsing on a tablet frustrating as hell, but even then I will keep my tablet near my TV. If I'm watching and something pops up that I want to look up (or, more recently, I find a new gun in Borderlands 2 with red text) I can grab it and pull up a wiki in 2 seconds flat. I can keep it next to the TV for about a week or more without charging it. My laptop needs to be constantly plugged in, and even when waking it from hibernating it takes about 120+ seconds to find and connect to the wireless. The tablet is always there, just begging for me to pick it up, instantly wake it and instantly be browsing in a subpar manner. |
