Guild Wars 2 Password Attacks

Ars Technica has an unconfirmed report that ArenaNet has been experiencing attempts at unauthorized access to Guild Wars 2 accounts. These differ from the typical such attacks as they are reportedly the result of a breach at an unnamed Guild Wars fan-site, and that the perpetrators are now trying the username and password combinations from the site to take advantage of users who also use them for their game account. They include the obvious warning that this is not a good idea.

The point was that you, like many others, portrayed snother feature as if its so awesome. I also called you on it that the skidding and the falling don't look natural at all. Especially the skidding, which really stood out as one of the uglier occurances in the game. The falling feels horrible too. You're pulled towards the ground in such a quick way it actually defies gravity and the camera can't even keep up.

What kinda gets me, all in all, is the lack of honest objectivity I experience from people when they talk about the overhyped GW2. In all standards this game simply isn't that gorgeous nor are the mechanics groundbreaking and new. AoC's environmental graphics were way more impressive, especially with the new dx11 features that came out later than the release. People are confirmation biased. Verno, you manage to mention position recognition like it's something we don't expect to see in every game of this day, for example. It's stuff like that, and many other displays of fanboism, that makes the people that really aren't that impressed wanna argue about it.

My hypothesis is that many people will quickly grow tired of the game. I think mainly because of how impersonal it is. In the chaos of the "dynamic events" -- even when it goes exceptionally well and players obviously know what they're doing! -- there's this factor missing that, I think, is the trinity. The way a healer gets compliments for saving the tank's ass who managed to keep the mobs on himself, and how the dps gets applauded for proper croud control. It's that harmony; that synergy, that myself and my mates are missing tremendously.

But we'll see.
