Dev wrote on Jul 27, 2012, 03:10: If thats the case, its good news, and much better than I've come to expect from beamdog. You say they acknowledge the contributions, but I haven't seen them do so, do you have any links?
Here's a quote from Trent Oster, the creative director of the project regarding the possibility of incorporating popular mods in the official game:
Trent Oster wrote on Jun 21, 2012, 03:10: If we plan to use anyone's content we'll contact them and ask them if they wish to contribute. In the case we can't track everyone down, or get everyone to agree, we can't use the content. If they choose to contribute content, we will make every possible effort to add them into the credits as contributors. However, our lawyer advises me we cannot guarantee credit as the approval process could deny any text additions to the game, even credit entries (even to members of our own team). While it is extremely unlikely any credit would be denied, we contractually can't promise a credit. I can say personally that if we use someone's content I'll go to bloody war to get them credit.

Some tweets by Mr. Oster: @JGScott1 we are trying hard not to break mods (https://twitter.com/TrentOster/status/180434143702818816) @sylvank the modders have done some amazing work. #bgee (https://twitter.com/TrentOster/status/180474615120920576) @guysholliday @Asthner We're very interested in supporting the modding community and hopefully kicking off even more mods #bgee (https://twitter.com/TrentOster/status/180394225236586497)
Here's another thread where the developers go out of their way to provide modders with information on some of the inner workings of the game engine (developer Scott Brooks posts source code details):

Also, the developers are basically gutting the old code which a had a ton of hard-coded things that mods would never have been able to change without access to the source code, so modding in the future can only be easier and more powerful.
