The WatchDogs Website has a trailer showing off this just-revealed open world game in development at Ubisoft Montreal. This originally seemed to be a console title, but there are plans for a PC edition as well, and the trailer offers hope for an impressive new IP. No release date is offered at this point.

It all depends on how scripted the game is. For instance, when he listens in on the woman's phone call would that call have happened anyway? Is the gameplay freeform or does the game heavily favour particular skills / styles (i.e. is hacking the traffic lights a much more preferable option than the others)?
Regardless, there's a lot to like about the game. The characters have a lot of personality - like the woman on the phone, the way she gestures to the guards and moves her tablet computer around. And in the street before he enters there are lots of incidental characters doing their own thing and like when he talks to the guy he pulls out of the car; it's easy to do that for a trailer but is the rest of the game going to be as immersive? I certainly like the way it becomes more like a TV show in the way it delivers the narrative. I just hope there is enough substance and enough non-action scenes.
We need a lot more games like this, games that give you a variety of ways to play and that have high production values and more real-world settings (rather than the COD-military style bullshit).
PS - Does anyone else think the vehicle handling looks appalling?
