38 Studios Closed?

38 Studios laid off its entire workforce according to an unconfirmed report on where they have an email purportedly sent to the company's staff, which they say consisted of 379 employees a of March 15. The Verge adds they've been informed by "a source familiar with the company" that 38 Studios also closed both its Rhode Island headquarters and its subsidiary studio Big Huge Games (thanks nin). They also note there is a semi-confirmation of this in a tweet from Colin Campbell, lead world designer at Big Huge Games: "Big Huge Games was home for my wife and me for our adult lives so far. I'll miss it terribly, but so proud. Good night and good luck." The Verge also quotes Governor of Rhode Island Lincoln Chafee attributing the closure to Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, saying the RPG "failed." They note that the game sold approximately 1.2 million copies in 90 days and Chafee says experts told him it needed to sell three million copies to break even. In 2010 Rhode Island loaned 38 Studios $75 million.

Financial troubles at the developer founded by former major league baseball pitcher Curt Schilling surfaced less than two weeks ago, but after some drama involving a bounced loan payment check and allegations of a missed payroll, things seemed to be on the rise, with word that the loan payment cleared and that the company's MMORPG codenamed Project Copernicus was expected in a year. In an interesting side note, Rock, Paper, Shotgun points out the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation has posted 38 Studios Public Documents with all the details on its financial dealing with the company.

Enjoy your European socialistic utopia boys, if Oblamer gets reelected I'm moving to Canada.

Don't threaten Canada like that

Seriously. People like him can keep their ignorance south of the border. We don't need or want it.

It's ignorant not to want to be spent into oblivion?
The day Pres. Obama took office the public debt was $6.4 trillion.
Today it is $11 trillion.

Spending by the Federal Government increased from $2.9 trillion in the last year of the Bush administration to over $3.5 trillion in the first year of the Obama Administration, and has since increased further to $3.8 trillion a year. This is despite Pres. Obama ending the US manned Space Program, his refusal to purchase the F22 Fighter, cuts to Medicare to pay for Obamacare,2 consecutive years with no Social Security cost of living increase, and cuts to defense and law enforcement.

Under Pres. Obama we have had increases in spending on welfare with
the workfare requirements repealed. Prior to the Obama Administration able bodied adults could only get welfare if they either worked 22 hours a week or were enrolled in job training. Welfare used to be for the sick, the infirm elderly, and children, but Pres. Obama has made it possible for able bodied adults to get welfare while making no effort to find any work.

Spending has increased from $2.9 trillion to $3.8 trillion a year under Pres. Obama in the past 3 years - an increase of over 30%.

In 2006, the last year we had a Republican Congress & President, the
federal deficit was less than $200 billion and unemployment was 4.5%.

We've lost millions of jobs since Barack Obama went to Washington
as a Senator in January 2007 despite trillion dollar deficits.

Taxes aren't the issue to recovery. This buffoon's out of control spending is. You cannot spend your way out of a recession.

That none of you left leaning folks care at all about how much money is being spent is flat out troubling. Someone has to eventually pay for it.
