38 Studios Closed?

38 Studios laid off its entire workforce according to an unconfirmed report on WPRI.com where they have an email purportedly sent to the company's staff, which they say consisted of 379 employees a of March 15. The Verge adds they've been informed by "a source familiar with the company" that 38 Studios also closed both its Rhode Island headquarters and its subsidiary studio Big Huge Games (thanks nin). They also note there is a semi-confirmation of this in a tweet from Colin Campbell, lead world designer at Big Huge Games: "Big Huge Games was home for my wife and me for our adult lives so far. I'll miss it terribly, but so proud. Good night and good luck." The Verge also quotes Governor of Rhode Island Lincoln Chafee attributing the closure to Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, saying the RPG "failed." They note that the game sold approximately 1.2 million copies in 90 days and Chafee says experts told him it needed to sell three million copies to break even. In 2010 Rhode Island loaned 38 Studios $75 million.

Financial troubles at the developer founded by former major league baseball pitcher Curt Schilling surfaced less than two weeks ago, but after some drama involving a bounced loan payment check and allegations of a missed payroll, things seemed to be on the rise, with word that the loan payment cleared and that the company's MMORPG codenamed Project Copernicus was expected in a year. In an interesting side note, Rock, Paper, Shotgun points out the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation has posted 38 Studios Public Documents with all the details on its financial dealing with the company.

Believe me Bhruic, small business owners are often lumped into it. And they create the jobs, not government like some delusional libs seem to think.

Cutter talking about Warren Buffet.. The same Buffet who's companies owed and possibly still do billions in back taxes. Yea that Buffet. It's already been debunked about his secretary paying more than him in the first place.

Fix the tax code loopholes, make everyone pay a flat rate. end of problem! Oh and stop spending like it's going out of style. If anyone has taken note not one liberal in this thread will talk about spending, just taxes and paving roads. Gee wonder why? Allthumbsup

Then you have Beamer, The pie is finite! No you retard, anyone can be successful, work and earn it, stop looking for your handout on others backs.

Enjoy your European socialistic utopia boys, if Oblamer gets reelected I'm moving to Canada.

I should believe you, rather than the evidence that shows you're wrong? That seems pretty silly. There are very, very few small business owners in the 1%, and the ones that are got their money from elsewhere.

I also note you completely overlooked the part about cap gains taxes, and skipped straight to the "flat rate" system, that would cause even more problems.

What I don't understand about people with similar viewpoints, is why you feel such a need to defend the uber-rich? They don't give a damn about you, manipulate the system to their benefit and your detriment, and you are still here defending them. Is it the misguided American notion that somehow you're going to magically join the 1% "one of these days"? That all of you are just millionaires-in-waiting? Or do you secretly pine for the days of a rich aristocracy ruling over the ignorant peasants?

Oh, and stay out of Canada please. You wouldn't like it up here anyway, we're more socialist than the US is.
