Infinity Ward Collects $42M in Royalties

The Verge has word that Activision has paid out $42 million in royalties to the group known as the "Infinity Ward Employee Group" who sued the publisher in 2010 over unpaid royalties from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Word is this is not a settlement, and the group is entitled to pursue their litigation as they say they are still owed more money. The group's attorney calls the payment a "cynical attempt to look good before the jury trial," and "although it is a meaningful payment it is only a small portion of what we are seeking in litigation. It is outrageous that they made us wait, they obviously knew they owed the money and this just shows that they breached the contract." The story suggests Activision was withholding these payments in the belief they might harm their case in their ongoing legal battle with former Infinity Ward bosses Jason West and Vince Zampella.
