Markus" notch" Persson tweets the release of some prototype screenshots from 0x10cͨ, Mojang's upcoming space game. He's also added a note to the section mentioning "hard science fiction" to back off that a bit: "Update: GAH, NO! I'm focusing on fun gameplay instead. I still want to get corrected on glaring scientific errors, though."

Mr. Tact wrote on Apr 12, 2012, 14:12: Can someone explain to me what the potential upside is from releasing these? Because if you ask me all it does is invite criticism -- deserved or not. A lot of people want to see it. I know I enjoy seeing a game come together from the very beginning. And he WANTS constructive criticism. Of course that means filtering through all the bullshit from the more intellectually stunted gamers.
Notch isn't a really marketing minded guy. He's a developer. He has an almost naive approach to communicating with the fans. He posts things assuming fans will understand that nothing is set in stone in a game that's been in development for a few weeks.
I think that kind of openness and honesty is refreshing, and since he's not enslaved to some oppressive publisher, he has the freedom to do it. |
