Quoteworthy - Pachter on Other People's Opinions

Analyst outraged by outrage: "I am certain that the ‘fan outrage’ has not hurt sales, and perhaps has helped sales," says Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter. "Unfortunately, appeasing the whiners here will only encourage fans to be even more vocal next time, so the lingering issue is that gamers will feel even more entitled and empowered than they have in the past, and will be even more demanding about changes to future games." Thanks Joao.

Funny, it didn't seem to do Dragon Age 2 any favors but thanks for playing Mike.

In truth, this is where I differentiate between wining and validly complaining.

Wining is things like "oh man, that developer once looked at me funny" or "it's wrong that they want to make money" or "the graphics weren't tweaked enough on level 4" or "this game sucks because it isn't 100% identical to the last game."

Valid complaints are "every dungeon is uses the same map, like, not an exaggeration it's literally the same map" or "they completely destroyed a functional game mechanic and replaced it with something half-assed because they felt it was too complicated" or "I spent $15 on this and am getting my ass kicked by guys that spent $50 in DLC yet this game was advertised as being totally fun and playable for that initial payment" or "the physics model is so broken that you drive through, instead of over, bridges."

Usually, but not always, you can tell based upon whether people are irate or constructive, but given that it's the internet and everyone tends to be have anger set at 8 from the get-go...
