Quoteworthy - Pachter on Other People's Opinions

Analyst outraged by outrage: "I am certain that the ‘fan outrage’ has not hurt sales, and perhaps has helped sales," says Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter. "Unfortunately, appeasing the whiners here will only encourage fans to be even more vocal next time, so the lingering issue is that gamers will feel even more entitled and empowered than they have in the past, and will be even more demanding about changes to future games." Thanks Joao.

so his opinion....regardless of the baseless crap he has spewed in the past...means very little to the industry or to the customers.
Yet it still makes news, and we still talk about him and his opinion.

I should have said "his opinion on this matter". I don't hold his opinion in very high regard in the first place, but his job is what it is, and the fact is that he has been "right" often enough to keep doing his job.

When people first started to react to the ending(s) of ME3, one of the things I noticed was that the media and other developers were quick to write up editorials defending the endings. Many reviews written before the average customer had the game in fact never even mention anything being wrong with them. The reason? Because everyone...the media, the analysts, the developers, and the publishers...all of them benefit if the customers stay predictable little sheep. The mainstream, so far, has been more then willing to oblige, until now. It will be very interesting to see how this changes the industry, if at all.
