LgFriess wrote on Mar 5, 2012, 12:52: I'm running a q9550/gtx280 and am wondering if I can pick up one of the mid range cards like these to stretch out the life of my PC until the new series of consoles hits, game requirements rise, and I do another full system upgrade. I just don't know if the q9550 will bottleneck me too much. Running at 1920x1200. I run a Phenom II X4 955, which I don't think is much (any?) faster than the q9550, and a Radeon 6870. The Radeon 7850 is a bit faster than the 6870. I feel that my video card is still usually my bottleneck at 1920x1200, so I think a new card would work pretty well for you.
Edit: Just checked some benches. Your q9550 would be a bit faster than my 955, so I'll say that a new card would pretty definitely give you a nice bump. Thanks for the info mag. I'm gonna wait to see what Nvidia has coming in the next few weeks, then pick one of the better cards up and see how long I can make this system last. |
