At this point I don't think anyone is really making money off of it. People are just justifying their jobs. Pretty much anyone involved in the war on drugs (or, rather, the war on marijuana) hates it, too. Everyone realizes what a waste of time and money it is. How sending someone to jail for having marijuana on their person is horrible, as well as a total strain on our justice system and our prison system. too many generalizations and absolutes.. "everyone" in your case refers to the grunt level guys.. not the assholes at the top, who i can assure you are making hard cash money off the whole thing.. much like politicians who court lobbyists - even tho "everyone" realizes what a fucked up situation that is
legal weed wont prevent black market weed, mainly because like most other legal and commercialized products, it would be produced cheaply to maximize profits... so even though boutique legal weed will exist, it wont be nearly as cheap as getting from the guy down the street with some kush in his front garden
a total strain on our justice system and our prison system. this is actually wrong in terms of the prison system, which has recently become increasingly privatized.. and therefore more convicts means more profits for those private sector businesses who provide various correctional services... which also lobby for laws that will keep their pockets and their prisons full |
